I let my sweat drip down, torrents of droplets splashing down on the ground. The air tasted so, so salty. It was like being near the ocean, but without the birds circling overhead, nor the waves crashing into the shore. My muscles were sore from running. My tongue was swelling from panting in the heat. I musta been slowly getting dehydration, my vision was going a little fuzzed at the edges, like a drunk-man's impressionist painting of the world. The glaring sun wasn't helping none either.
I started thinking back to those nights at sea. That everlasting blueness that just sank into your soul with each day. Back when it took so many weeks before Morgan finally got her sea-legs. Until she did find her legs, I'd find her either on the starboard deck, green in the face leaning on the railing, or below-decks clutching a book for dear life. At that point, I always wondered why she signed on in the first place, it seemed like she was just making herself miserable and she was getting in the way at times. Once she learned to walk at sea, well, it was as if she'd been born at sea, born a sailor. She'd be up in the crow's nest, checking the map against our surroundings. Nimbly she would climb down the ropes back to deck, swifter than any galley-rat on the seven seas.
Man, I miss Morgan...I miss her and I miss the sea, I'm so sick of this never ending desert! Maybe I've only been running in circles, that cactus looks like one I saw earlier. I always thought mirages were just jokes, men seeing things that weren't there in the baking sun, but that looks a hell of a lot like my old ship rising through the haze in the horizon. What a cruel trick for my brain to play, especially as I run out of energy next to be that very same cactus...ahh, no this one has two arms, not three, my mistake.....

Sailing on
They called me The Captain, well I suppose that's still who I am. Still I pilot this ship, but there are no men to crew it. The crew has been asleep below deck for the better part of a decade; a damn witch's curse! Witches, they are evil blasted things, how we even angered her, I still can't quite figure nor why she left me awake. And I 'ave no prince or princess to kiss them all awake, nor do I even know if that would cure it. They all sleep peacefully, seemingly perfectly content to continue their slumber. Leaving me to take care of them; make sure they're all tucked in tight when the storms get violent and keep the ship sailing. Its lonely and not all at the same time.
I've been on the seas all this time, seen every ocean, all the continents discovered and not, strings of islands and things you've never heard of. Frankly I don't even know rightly where we are anymore. The stars are all foreign, which is saying something for a seaman who know star charts better than the back of his hands. Some days I can swear I see the humps of sea monsters in the distance moving through the water like living islands. The sea itself seems to be a different hue entirely, not the dark blue that is so familiar, but rather a sort of an emerald like colour. Still I sail on, I 'aven't stopped once, I don't know what I'm looking for, but I'll know when I find it. I know that much for sure. Until then I will keep sailing on...sailing on..

Keeping Afloat
The waves are rollicking and romping across the sea here. A smash here, a crash there. Quick men, tighten the ropes! To the Starboard flanks! We're taking on water, prepare to bailout! We are going to make it out of here alive men, as Captain of this ship I swear I will steer us to calmer waters and out of this storm. Krakoom! Oh no! Lightning hit the secondary mast...Now it's on fire! Okay well, this predicament might be more tricky to get out of, but I still have hope. Look there! It seems to be a lighthouse we might just make it!
.....
Would I be a good captain of a boat? I have no idea. Maybe. Perhaps. Well I guess we are each captains of our own lives, and there were a few stormy weeks of stress and busy-ness, then on top of that I have been sick for the past almost two weeks and I am just ready to be done with school for the quarter and go home. That is the truth.
On another note, completely changing the topic Royksopp is pretty awesome. Royksopp is an electronic duo from Sweden that creates some of the funkiest, most awesome, disco tinged beats you will encounter (maybe that's over the top, but I enjoy them). On some tracks they have other artists add vocals for them. check it out.
